Adult Fellowship
Adult Fellowship will meet on Tuesday, June
14th , at noon in the Brian Ray Holland Fellowship Hall. The program will be “Sharing Time with Pastor Patricia”. Please invite someone to come with you and bring your favorite covered dish to share.

Backpack Program for Hall Woodward
Elementary School
We have completed the school year sending home 50 backpacks with food for children at Hall Woodward School. We were blessed to have a grant of $10,000 donated to get us started in January.
These backpacks with food have made a difference in kids’ lives. Our prayer is to continue this program when school starts back in August.
Sponsoring a child for a year is $160, that is less than $1 per meal. Please prayerfully consider giving to help feed hungry children.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Giving of our Tithes and Offerings
(All members and guests are asked to register their attendance on the pad found on each pew. Please use an extra line and list your email address. Please pass the pad to your neighbor. When all have signed, pass it back toward the center aisle. Those sitting next to the center aisle are asked to hand the completed sheet to the usher as the offering is received.)

Our Hearts, Our Minds, Our Doors Are Always Open July 13, 2011

PREACHER DAVE’S SCROLLS

I offer you greetings of grace and peace. I want to begin by saying a huge “Thank You” to the Staff Parish Committee, the Parsonage Committee, the UMYF and those who helped unload my moving truck, to the UMW for the delicious meals, and to the Frazzled Females for their pounding. Trying to get settled in a new community is a process that requires some time. Please know I want to be included in the Sedge Garden Church Family! Soon after my older brother got married, I remember asking Mom if we could go visit him. She replied, “They are still on their honeymoon and we do not need to bother them.” I never knew what she meant. They had returned from the beach and were at their new apartment. Why couldn’t we go see them? How would our going to visit bother them? I share this story as a request. PLEASE BOTHER ME! I know very little about You or Kernersville. I want to become your pastor and friend. So during our honeymoon time, I need you to bother me! Invite me to worship, dine, play, or visit with you. The door at my church office was intentionally left opened this past Sunday as a statement.…open hearts, open minds, open doors! I want you to know me! I want to know you! What do you like/dislike about church and the neighborhood? What brings you closer to Christ? Where do you go to play and dine? What are the “things” that are uniquely special about the Sedge Garden UMC Community and Kernersville? What are your dreams and visions for God’s Kingdom at Sedge Garden? You see, I want YOU to bother me! I just left more than 600 very dear and close church friends and family. I left a place that for the last eight years had been my happy home and community. You know each other and are very comfortably established in this community. That’s why you proudly call Sedge Garden and Kernersville home. Perhaps, if you bother me enough, I will call it home too! That certainly is my prayer! Yes, this may be my honeymoon, but I am in need of FAMILY! BOTHER ME!

July Mission Project
Our July mission project is Operation Homecoming. The infantry Marines of 2nd Battalion 8th Marines have been living and fighting in primitive conditions in Afghanistan for the past seven months. When they return, it is to a bare bunk in an empty barracks room. We want to give them the heroes welcome they deserve. You can make it “HOME” with towels, toiletries and other goodies for a Heroes Homecoming Box. Monetary donations in any amount to support one or more Marines is appreciated. Monetary donations will prevent us from incurring mailing costs and volunteers are in place who will purchase, package and distribute the boxes.

God’s Moment by Preacher Dave
George Beverly Shea has always been my musical hero! As a youngster growing up on the family dairy farm, my assigned chore was milking the cows. A radio was always playing in the parlor. WDBM radio station in Statesville played many of Mr. Shea’s songs. I tried to imitate this great singer’s voice each time his record played. I did a lot of singing. The cows never seemed to mind. They were very contented cows! One of Bev’s songs said “Little is much when God is in it!” Moses performed miracles using a staff in his hand (Exodus 10:13). Samson used a jaw bone from a donkey to kill a thousand of his enemies (Judges 15:15). David killed the giant, Goliath, with a sling and a small stone and brought victory to the Israelites (1 Samuel 17:50). Elisha made bad water pure with a handful of salt, and he fed 100 people with 20 loaves of barley bread (2 Kings 2:19-22 and 4:42-44). Dorcas, with a few needles and thread, made garments for the poor widows (Acts 9:36-41). Jesus fed the thousands with just five loaves of bread and two fishes (Matthew 14:13-21). Little accomplished much in the name of the Lord for all these people. God can transform and accomplish great things from just a little faith! Jesus said a little mustard seed size faith could move a mountain. These words still minister today. The amount of faith is not the issue. The key to ministry is simply using the faith you have. Little is much when God is in it! Use your talents to honor the Lord. When we surrender in faith to serve God and others, it may feel little and insignificant. A phone call, a card, a visit, and a kind word are such small gestures of faith; but, “Little is much when God is in it”!

“Whoever is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much….” (Luke 16:10, NRSV)
