As we reflect on our PURPOSE and its role in our lives, we ask that our eyes and hearts be opened to what the PURPOSE is truly about. It is about loving God and our neighbor.
Our local UMW unit is comprised of Officers, Mission Coordinators and Circle Leaders. Through guidance of the United Methodist Women’s General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, we strive to provide our membership:
With timely program materials (monthly programs within each Circle);
Educating and raising the awareness level of the poor and the oppressed in our world (speaker/ programs at each General Meeting provided by Mission Coordinators);
Outreach and nurturing projects for local and global communities.
Sedge Garden UMW offers three Circles that meet monthly and welcomes all women to join them:
United Morning Circle meets the first Wednesday each month at 10:00 a.m. in the church parlor.
Circle Three meets the second Thursday each month at 7:30 p.m. in members’ homes.
Millennium Circle meets the third Monday each month at 7:00 p.m. in members’ homes.
“The understanding of the total program of the UMW as mission becomes very important as funds are received and disbursed. Without mission education, advocacy for the oppressed does not take place. Without continual growth in the Christian faith, social involvement becomes shallow. Without a solid supportive community, women are unable to care for their own needs and the needs of others. Without a clear understanding of the PURPOSE of United Methodist Women by its members and the whole church, the entire mission of the church suffers.” (Mission: Responding to God’s Grace - Women’s Division, UMC)
The UMW believes in helping all women experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ.
