“Monday School” (versus Sunday School) meets every Monday night officially 7:00 PM until… in the Brian Ray Holland Fellowship Hall for Fellowship and Bible Study. All are welcome – Come on by !
History: The Group met for the first time in 2004 studying “40 Days of Purpose” by Rick Warren and has been meeting weekly ever since. Monday nights were chosen as numerous members were also in the Chancel Choir and could not attend at the regular Sunday School hour. Though membership has waxed and waned through the years we generally gather a core Baker’s Dozen to each of our meetings and ministries. Study: 40 Days of Purpose, Rick Warren; Praying to Make a Difference, Jim and Kay Johns; Experiencing God, Henry Blackaby; all of Adam Hamilton’s studies; Romans, Max Lucado, Irresistible Invitation, Maxie Dunam; Treasures of the Transformed Life, John Ed Matteson; The Promised Land, Ray Vander Lin, and many others including how Current Events relate to and affect our small group, our Church, and our Methodism. As one member puts it “Discussions and just taking a little time to shoot the breeze.” Past Missions (in no particular order): Visiting and singing from the Cokesbury with our homebound, our members in retirement centers, our past ministers, Interior and exterior painting at the Children’s Home, Tending the courtyard between the buildings, Picking the SGUMC gardens prior to Monday meeting time, Filling food bags annually for Union Cross Elementary Children’s take-home, Supporting Vinny and Family by dining at the Loop en masse, Cleaning the kitchen at Church, Dining together at restaurants or at members’ homes, Attending movies together for later discussion “Evan Almighty” “The Passion of The Christ” “The Davinci Code’. Monday Schoolers feed off of each other’s Christian Love, Fellowship, and Concern. We invite other members of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church to stop by for a visit sometime.
