Music Ministries

Sedge Garden United Methodist Church offers a wide variety of music ministries to people of all ages.  There are currently nine ensembles available to anyone interested in participating in music.

First Fruits Praise Band – This group leads the music for our contemporary worship service, First Fruits. Instruments include guitar, drums, bass and keyboard.  Practice is every Thursday @ 7:00pm in the Brian Ray Holland Fellowship Hall.

Chancel Choir – A 40 voice choir; primary music leaders for our 10:55am traditional worship service.  Rehearsals every Wednesday at 7:30pm in choir room.

Youth Praise Band – 7 piece ensemble ranging in ages 12-18 consisting entirely of youth; plays in both contemporary and traditional worship services; also plays for various district events.  Rehearsals every Wednesday at 5:00pm in Brian Ray Fellowship Hall.

Children’s Choir – Boys and girls ages 5 through 5th grade.  Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings during our contemporary worship service, First Fruits.

Sounds of Joy Handbell Choir – A 12 ringer, adult handbell choir for 4 octave Malmark handbells and 3 octave Malmark hand chimes; rehearsals are every Wednesday at 6:30pm in Sanctuary; holds various concerts throughout the year and plays frequently in 10:55am traditional worship.

VIP’s - “Voices in Praise”; a 14 ringer ensemble of senior adults playing 32 Kristal Bells; plays for 10:55am traditional worship; travels to various facilities especially retirement homes to play for residents; rehearsals every Tuesday at 9:30am in choir room.

Men’s Chorus – a group of men who enjoy fellowship and music.  No age restrictions; rehearsals on Sunday afternoons at 3:45pm in choir room.

Women’s Choir – a group of women who enjoy fellowship with other women and singing.  No age restrictions; rehearsals on Sunday mornings at 9:15am in choir room.

Glory Street Quartet – Glory Street has been spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in song since 1991. For more information, please visit GloryStreet.com

SGUMC Band – Members of the church with various musical talent.  Instruments include flute, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophones, trumpet, horn, trombone, and tuba; rehearsals vary.

“From the WORD” Drama Team – a group consisting of men, women, boys, and girls who present drama ministries in both the contemporary and traditional worship services as well as various events and special programs.  The most recent program was “From the Word”, a compilation of four Broadway musicals including “Godspell”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dream Coat”, “Jesus Christ SuperStar!” and “Children of Eden”.
