Organist / Pianist

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide organ/piano music for scheduled worship services and other activities in support of the music ministry of Sedge Garden UMC.
Music during Traditional worship service: prelude, offertory, communion, postlude, anthems, hymns and other service music
Music during special services: such as Christmas Eve, Easter, Lent, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday

Education/Experience/Skills & Abilities (Preferred):

  • Passionate follower of Jesus who is growing in their faith

  • Demonstrate the ability to work with various personalities, accept direction, input, suggestions and accept constructive criticism/evaluation from SGUMC leadership

  • Partners with Contemporary Worship leadership especially with coordination of time and/or space

  • Friendly, with a positive attitude and willingness to engage in representing the mission of our church with the staff and congregation

  • The ability to lead part rehearsals, if needed

  • Perform music for choir and special events as written at all levels of difficulty

  • The ability to sight-read

  • A high level of proficiency is required on both organ and piano

  • Proficiency in playing open score when working on choir parts during rehearsals

  • The accompanist should have a basic knowledge of standard church music literature (choral, instrumental and congregational)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills (both verbal and written)

  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment with shared tasks

  • Flexibility to work nights/weekend/holiday hours as needed

  • Required passing of background check
